I did graphic design, screen pringting, sign building and woodcarving for a lining. I've built furniture fo my own use and for the fun of it. I customize most anything I get my grubby lil' paws on. Yes, I minored in fine arts in college and do drawing, painting and sculpture now and again just for the kicks. I see some of my Mac hacks as sculpture, laying out a PCB is artwork, it's what I do.
Hacking macs has become second nature to me, I did it back when they were in daily use in my shop, new, refurbished or used never made a difference even then. Collectible status has very little bearing on what I do now.
O1M, those Macs are modified, not deformed. Now they're more fun for the collectors who own and use them because of the way they've been transformed.
If this ever becomes a "showcase queen" hobby, I'm outta here, just like in my camera collecting.
| Posted by: onlyonemac on 2013-03-16 10:12:20 I thought it was already. (That's how I do the hobby anyway.)
| Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-03-16 10:27:27 You're young and short of funds, as is anyone your age, so what you can afford is precious to you. Prices may seem to be in the collectible realm but, for the most part, that's only the stuff of eBay dreams.
A very few Macs and, of course, the Lisa have become collectibles. More will achieve that status over the years, but it will take a while.
For now, hackers can still build the Macs of their dreams at a relatively affordable cost out of Macs that are not, and never will be, in showcase condition.
In camera collecting, we call these "users" because they aren't mint condition. I sold off most of my mint gear long ago. The few lenses in that class are in my gadget bags and are still not replaceable.
My two prototypes are really the only truly sacrosanct pieces in my collection.

As Far as what I plan on doing should be 100% reversible.Likewise with what olePigeon did here to his RAD LC.
I don't normally use the word " RAD " ether. Hey, RAD is AWESOME! It also happens to be one of my favorite movies of all time. 😀
