eMate 300

If you are in touch, it is worth asking the previous owner if an internal memory expansion card had been installed before sale. It would need a hard reset if that were ever removed. I can't quite remember the details but the system is effectively rebuilt for the wider data path when the card is installed, and if withdrawn, well, it needs rebuilt again.

No memory card was installed. My power supply doesnt even turn the light on so I will get a new one. I have nothing else to test this power supply on as the hole is smaller than a powerbook 100 series.

"I have the original power adapter so once i get home in a few hours i can measure it for you

EDIT: http://www.splorp.com/newton/faq/newton ... .html#IIB7

This might also be of help, the graphic shows the pin as the positive and the shield as the negative."

This does not list the emate 300 and the previous emates say 5 volt but 7.5 will work. It does help determine that the positive is center tho. Thank you.

Please, be sure and only ever use a regulated power supply on your eMate. They are very sensitive to over-volting.

That's what I just bought. I think the end I had the center did not touch so I bought an after market with more ends, well see if that does the trick.

The one I have with my eMate says "Newton Power Adapter" Model H1300 and is rated at 7.0V, 0.5A. Positive center pole.

Ok after a new power plug, and no go. I took it apart, not too tough. Sure enough there is one electrolyte capacitor on the "top" of the board. Pulled a new one out replaced and whamo plug in and turns on lickity split. All are tants now with replacement. It's a nice bright screen with backlight. I haven't figured out the drawing and such but its very nice.

Good job!

lickity split.
i wonder what is the origin of this saying?

drawing and such
Yeah that was why I want one, great for the kid, much less expensive then an ipad.

over all i think they are very cool!

Hah! great news you got it working. Also very helpful info on the Cap... have to keep that one in mind if i ever come across someone who has a failing eMate.

Just for the sake of completeness:

My power adapter is a:

Newton 9W Power Adapter

Input: 100-240V AC 0.5A 50-60Hz

Output: 7.5V DC 1.2A

Pin is positive as marked on the adapter (stupid i did not notice it before 😛 !)

It has a screw detacheable plug (as with the newer apple duckheads)

and a nice cable coming out from the side of the adapter (love that unique look 🙂 )

IThe drawing isnt that simple or I am missing something. I use the pencil tool to draw and as soon as I lift the stylus up it disappears. It doesnt dissappear for any other tool. I just woke up so I am sure I am missing something simple but its realy weird.

You must have selected the icon that looks like an arrow?

The one with the curvy line is the real pencil tool 😛

Have a nice day! Since it's 00:13 here i'm going to get some sleep 😀

Thank you Ike !!! Another hit me with a brick moment. Its definately an interesting piece of hardware. It would be just about perfect if that screen would have been color like a screen of a palm. Its bigger than a palm screen but that would have beat the snot out of mario paint.

Palms were greyscale too back then 😉

Posted by: Ike on 2013-03-05 16:04:23
must say that i was positively surprised when i saw the eMate actually does undithered greyscale 😛 !
