I did bend the copper bit the top read head is attached to when I was greasing/degunking the drive, but I carefully pushed it back into place and verified with a floppy that it's making full contact with the disk. It may still be related to a problem with the read head not making contact or not reading properly. I'll try cleaning it. I've got another drive to disassemble and clean, so we'll see what happens.
Posted by: CC_333 on 2013-02-21 18:10:46 Hi, I have found that there is a little spring which pull the heads together. What happens is it gets stretched out a bit. The tension can be adjusted to compensate by hooking the spring to a different mounting point (there are several). If you look carefully at the back of the heads, you will see what I mean (the spring is black, so it blends in very well). You might have to pull them apart a little. I don't think the copper thing is the problem; it's just a hinge as far as I can tell. c
