So the 4M+ got the notirious PC Load Letter error message. There's a fancy feature where you can remotely program the display to show anything you want.
This is an old trick, but always fun. It's easy to change the status message on a networked HP printer; just telnet to the printer's IP address on port 9100, and type the following:
@PJL RDYMSG DISPLAY="YOUR MESSAGE HERE"
Press enter, and you're done; the new status message will stick around until you change it back, or someone restarts the printer. |
Posted by: trag on 2015-08-10 07:00:58 IIRC the 4M+ has four 72 pin SIMM slots one of which is used by the Postscript SIMM. You can install standard 72 pin SIMMs into the other slots to increase the printer's memory. HP always claimed it needed special HP memory but that was a scam. In one case I even had an HP printer which wouldn't work with HP memory but worked fine with generic 72 pin SIMMs.
I think there are some ID resistors on unused (PID) pins but most SIMMs seem to get those right.
