Beige G3 or iMac G3?

B&W G3 officially added to the question.

STILL NO JOY about Headgap's timing out? (I don't bother emailing them)

I'm not getting anything here either. Something's definitely awry.

Well if the B&W is in the running, the go for it.

It is a superior machine to both the BeigeG3 and the iMac G3's of which we have been discussing to date.

Faster FSB, built in ATA/66, supports more RAM, easier to upgrade CPU, easiest case to work in and so on.

I have a B&W and I love it.

I think I will get the B&W. And a 450.

(I remember I seen something about this, but can I pull the processor from a Yikes! and put on a B&W?)

Yes, I think you can. 🙂

A nice thing about B&W G3 and Yikes G4 is that they are the last macs with the older style ADB connectors for keyboard and mouse. This expands your options also beyond USB hardware from windoze machines. You can also use the nice ones from older macs. On my B&W G3 I used an old large mac keyboard which i found thrown away, it is called Datadesk 101e and is one of my favorites I have ever used.

I would caution against beige G3s for Mac OS X because they only run older versions, and have firmware problems.

The Yikes does not have ADB, Apple removed it.Also, I think this thread considered pretty much completed and dead as far as I know.

You must use a ROM flashing utility from one of the third party upgrade manufacturers to get around Apple's deliberate disabling of G4s on B&Ws. I forget whose utility - check xlr8yourmac.com's FAQ or model specific pages.

If you attempt to boot a B&W with a G4 ZIF without first flashing the ROM, (IIRC) you end up with a large brick.
