| Rom-inated 512K |
Posted by: bigmessowires on 2015-03-21 13:37:30 Yeah, that true. I would sell pre-assembled kits if it made sense. But since installation requires soldering anyway, a kit is the only practical solution. Rob Braun is selling Mac Plus systems with his version of a ROM kit already installed, if you're looking for something like that.Â

Posted by: max1zzz on 2015-03-21 15:24:02 i'm a little envious, I want a bootable rom in my 512k but i just won't fit (it's got a MacGusto II upgrade board and the rom chips are scraping the chassis as it is.... )
Maybe i'll just have to cut the difference and install a internal Scsi2SD in it 🙂

Posted by: Juliet Elysa on 2015-03-22 00:32:42 Wow, LOVE the photography! Especially the up close shots, those types of pictures are my favorite.
What keys do you press to boot from ROM again? I should know this but my brain deleted it.

Posted by: bigmessowires on 2015-03-22 08:34:48 For a Mac Classic's built-in ROM disk, I believe its command-option-X-O. With my Rom-inator kit, you just press R.

Posted by: MJ313 on 2015-04-14 18:23:57 Well, I just couldn't leave it alone... curiosity got the best of me. I followed Steve's directions and changed the startup sound to... a turkey gobble.
lol!
this thing is too cool.

Posted by: Juliet Elysa on 2015-04-14 19:19:06 LOL! That made my day. 😀 😛
Can you take a video? I would love to hear that!
|
Posted by: MJ313 on 2015-04-14 19:44:56 I don't think I can pull off the video tonight... because I haven't shared videos. Ever. In my life. lol (that would require youtube right??)
But here's the .6sec file I used if you want to hear what it sounds like 🙂

Posted by: MJ313 on 2015-04-15 05:58:32 I think I may try to do the Pirate "arrrrr" sound so it goes with the Pirate icon.
Unfortunately all the Pirate sounds on the web I came across seem to cost real-life money, so i may have to try and create it myself. The horror! 😀
Alternatively, I do have a clip of a Zombie going "brainzzz" which would be fun to use if I updated to icon to the zombie. LOL.
EDIT: My co-worker just helped me out with recording an ARrrrr on iPhone, so I'm all set with that lol. Good use of work time.

Posted by: Paralel on 2015-04-15 06:50:50 Well, if Uni had done it with sockets, would it have cleared, height-wise, in a 512k case? From those pics it looks like there is literally no room.
|
Posted by: bigmessowires on 2015-04-15 08:08:03 All my ROM-inator boards are socketed, and fit my 512K system. The extra clearance is almost zero, but more than zero is all it needs!

Posted by: olePigeon on 2015-04-15 09:46:34 Well, if I ever get a fancy upgraded 128k or 512k, my goal would be to load Color QuickDraw, SCSI, and HyperDrive support in-ROM, then I'd install a HyperDrive, external SCSI, and a Radius PowerView for a super fast, SCSI based, color Macintosh 512k. 😀
|
Posted by: MJ313 on 2015-04-15 17:17:51 OK, I updated it with the Arrr we made earlier. lol. here's the video link if anyone seriously cares.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/pxm8snjgbeq3wow/Arr.MOV?dl=0
There's a very brief hiccup at the end of the arrr... not sure why. The recording is .65 seconds in length. I don't think I noticed it with the TurkeyGobble because it sounds kind of like the gobble. not sure right now. I might shorten the recording to see if that gets rid of the blurp.
EDIT and now Dropbox seems inaccessible. sigh.

Posted by: techknight on 2015-04-15 19:05:16 Ugh... another one of those wrong-way video recordings....Â
Sorry, starting to become a pet-peeve as time goes on.Â

Posted by: MJ313 on 2015-04-15 19:49:47 I'm betting you have a lot of pet-peeves. Make a list for me and I'll work on making your life miserable.
