| Hotline Servers... Anyone still use them? |
Posted by: Christopher on 2008-05-05 18:53:04 The first time I ever used the internet was was probably around 2000 or so on our Performa 6400. That was an amazing time.

Well, yeah, but you tended to have it thrust into your face a lot more on Hotline. Almost every second server had at least some porn content. Not really...ever gone to...well...most websites using IE 6? 😉 I'm using it right now (under duress). Why?

Re: Hotline. Adam Hinkley was an AUSOM member back in the day when he developed the server and client, he got stiffed by the company that all but stole it from him. Under the new developers the thing got turned into a pile of sh*t. I still use 1.2.3…

The community didn't take too kindly to what happened to Hinkley and stopped buying the product. The company wasn't around very long after that. A lesson to be learned for those companies that are lawsuit happy: Sometimes you win the lawsuit but lose the company OR Blowback can be a bitch.

Posted by: quinterro on 2008-05-06 10:26:36 I definitely remember 300 baud and BBSing on my Tandy 1000EX. I also remember upgrading to a 1200 baud about a week later. This was around 1989 or so.

I started using the Net when 33k Modems were modern.
:I
(just kidding, it will take a year or 10 and people will tell me KEYBOARD? you're so old!).

(just kidding, it will take a year or 10 and people will tell me KEYBOARD? you're so old!). Reminds me of the Back to the Future movies. In 1885, shooting a gun was a necessary survival skill. In 1985, it's a fun recreational activity. By 2015, it's a baby game.

A. I don't think Hotline was always or intended to be a pirate protocol.
B. HOTLINE, HOTLINE, HOTLINE.
Sometimes just makes me with the old protocol could be kickstarted again... many a good time on the ol' Hotline. 🙁 Hotline was in its day a great little piece of software. For its intended use it was nifty. I used to transfer files between my Mac's and it toasted regular file sharing for network copy speed.
