The first FM station in Australia....
Cool. Were the first broadcasts in stereo?

Ah, MBS, Music Broadcasting Society. There's a 3MBS in Melbourne as well now. I love the idea of a community-run classical music station.

3MBS was only a few months behind us in getting to air. We broadcast in glorious living mono, from a home-brew transmitter and antenna, at 15W ERP (dinkum) for a month before beginning stereo in Jan 1975. We're at parity (50kW ERP) with the ABC now, but it took the better part of 20 years (dinkum, again) to wrest approval from the PS blocknocrats to get there, once the euphoria of Public Radio (subsequently dismissed as 'Community Radio') had worn off.

Sad to report is that the Society was all-Mac from 1986 until just after the turn of the Century, when, without consultation, ignorant employees switched us to the PC world because they knew nothing of Mac. One result is that Mac owners have to use contortions even to use QuickTime for the streaming from http://2mbsfm.primcast.com/2MBSFM
