Thatโs all very cool, but the replacement decal is probably my favourite bit! Please show us the case when itโs ready!
Will do. I'm letting the clear coat sit for a bit as unlike previous times, I'm using an inkjet and want to ensure it doesn't wash out when I soak it for the transfer. |
Posted by: jmacz on 2025-02-02 12:34:56 I quickly 3D modeled the mini stand that comes with the M0401 and M1297 Apple RGB 13" monitors. I have an original part but my other monitors don't and I rarely see these included as they are easily lost/misplaced. The STL model is attached to the post in this thread.

Test print which fits and seems to work.

Curious why you're changing the process when the previous decals have all come out so nicely? |

Not by choice. My laser finally broke down and currently only have two inkjets. |

Ah, that sucks ๐
How difficult are these to remove cleanly if it turns out to not be colourfast or whatever? |

Very easy to remove with no marks left behind. |
Posted by: jmacz on 2025-02-03 12:26:15 Prefer the laser as with the inkjet, I had to add a layer of acrylic clear coat and that caused the decal to be minutely thicker. This then prevents the edges from blending in more, even using micro sol. But still, it's ok. Ignore the shadow from my phone as I was taking the picture.

Posted by: jmacz on 2025-02-06 12:36:28 Hmm, the previous water slide decal transfer sheets I was using (made for inkjets) required a clear coat spray to avoid smearing. Looks like there's newer transfer sheets now that have removed the need for the clear coat... interesting.
EDIT: nevermind, reviews are pretty bad on the clear version... it bleeds and has a bluish tint. |
Posted by: jmacz on 2025-02-09 11:42:38 I redid the decal using the InkJet again but this time using 3 light coats of acrylic clear (5 minutes between each). The result turned out much better. And looking at it again, I think this time it turned out better than the laser as the black is much darker/crisper than when I did it with toner.

Posted by: jmacz on 2025-02-24 16:46:18 Picked up another Fujitsu Magneto Optical drive... another 2.3GB one. This one works! I'm 3 for 5 now on eBay. Two working 2.3GB drives. One working 640MB drive. One busted 2.3GB drive. And a busted 640MB drive. Got a refund on the busted 640MB drive. Did not get a refund on the busted 2.3GB drive as I found out it didn't work with 2.3GB disks much too late (as it was working with 640MB disks). And now it's completely dead. Oh well.
Finally decided to jump in on the PowerBook Duo system. Picked up a working Duo 280c although it has a bunch of plastic issues and needs a full recapping. I will put up a thread with pictures when I'm done. Got an Apple mini dock as well, also needed plastic work and recapping. Having zero luck trying to find more memory for this thing but at least the unit I bought came with 12MB. But would love to have 24MB+. Somewhat tempted to buy a full 68040 and replace the LC in this unit (and overclock it) just to see if it would work.. but I need to fight that urge. |

Posted by: jmacz on 2025-02-28 19:53:15 US Customs is so slow... but after being stuck for 2 weeks in customs inspection, my L88M mask 68040 CPU from Eric Woo on eBay arrived today and I got to try it out with @Bolle's clock doubler. Looks to be working!

It's painted, similar to what I have done with all of my keeper Macs.
Curious, what paint did you use on this one? Looks different than the 700. |

Same one as always, no different from the 700. It's Stone Gray from Rustoleum. |
