Posted by: luckybob on 2018-02-14 17:47:01 Oh please. I spent $350 for my last pentium pro motherboard. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=48043
Granted it's a one-in-a-million board, but still.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-02-14 18:06:47 Yeah, I think I'd be happy with like...one of those Micronics(?) 440BX dual Socket 8 boards that everyone uses.
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2018-02-14 18:49:44 Intel PR440FX (BX is a P2 board) is what most people want in a dual PPro board. I had one running for a decade around 2000-2010 as a server (still works but I went with a different machine).
I also have a not so common Micronics W6-LI dual PPro board.
Scrapper love the PPro chips so even if you found the board cheap you will pay some cash for matching CPU's and then you have to deal with finding the heatsinks for them. Finding a complete working machine cheap these days is something to brag about.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-02-14 19:07:18 Even if it wasn't cheap I'd still rather have a complete machine. Complete machines don't see to pop up though.

Posted by: rickrob on 2018-02-14 19:08:10 Back in the Netware days-- I used to run Netware 4 on a PC Server 365 with Dual PPros. If I remember correctly, it had a daughter card with the CPU's and VR modules. Cool machine. I used to get a kick out the two snakes on the Monitor screen. They got longer as the load on the machine increased.

Posted by: luckybob on 2018-02-14 19:15:05 Man, the IBM 365 is on the shortlist of machines I want.
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2018-02-14 19:45:05 IBM made a desktop dual PPro machine. I worked on one for a guy who worked at the local university. A year or two later he was done with school and asked if I wanted to buy the machine for $40 (since I had a dual Ppro I passed). His machine has the 1MB cache 200Mhz CPUs (they were black not the gold metal topped ones you normally see).
IBM PC365 I think it was (same as the PC Server 365?).

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-02-14 19:48:19 Man, that sounds like an absolute beast of a system. I'd do a lot of not so great things to get one...

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-03-01 15:39:22 This isn't a Mac, nor a computer at all, but I absolutely adore this little TV.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2018-03-01 16:18:30 Did you ever find a 32 bit RAM board for your PS/2 70? If not I have some.
|
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-03-01 16:23:17 Oh, I had to put that off because I needed all my parts budget for another project...
|
Posted by: luckybob on 2018-03-01 21:38:19 I have a couple 16's if you are willing to settle.

This isn't a Mac, nor a computer at all, but I absolutely adore this little TV. Those little Zenith TVs are great. I used to have a 13" model, though it didn't get the cool "Space Command" moniker. Does your remote take the ridiculous J size battery too?
|
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-03-02 13:13:23 Nope, it looks like normal AAA batteries to me.
I'm not sure if I still have an RF modulator or not, I have a feeling I don't.
|
Posted by: CC_333 on 2018-03-02 22:08:26 That's a nice little TV!
I have a pair of 9" TV/VCR combos (one I got recently, the other I've had since 2000 or so) Both work okay, although the tuner on the old one is completely shot (I had to take it out). It still works with the Aux in though.

Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-03-04 12:31:43 Today I snagged some dirt cheap ($5 for the pair) portable TV/radio combo units...these two both have screw type antenna connections and so they can be easily adapted to RF for plugging in other stuff. The GE is from 1984 and the TMK is from 1982, the oldest of these 5 inch B&W portable TVs that I've seen so far.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2018-03-05 21:07:06 Nice TV/Radios!
I have a color Emerson from 1986, and it's really nice for what it is (quite heavy for a portable unit though, kinda like the Mac Portable). I tried getting another in really nice condition (on mine, the front plastic window over the CRT has a big crack and partially worn off printing, and it's missing its antenna), but thanks to the incompetence of my local FedEx branch, it's been lost in limbo since last November :very mad: I refuse to ever use FedEx again with anything important, unless I have no other choice.
</rant>
Since there's no analog OTA TV anymore, what are you going to use them for? Nice little monitors for Apple IIs and such? I bet one of them would go perfectly with a IIc modded for battery operation [🙂]

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2018-03-05 21:12:55 There are those cheap HDTV to SDTV converters that have RF output.
|
Posted by: EvieSigma on 2018-03-05 22:19:21 Yeah, since these things have screw terminals that can be adapted to RF, I can easily plug in all kinds of stuff. I'd never get one of these without screw terminals or a 75 ohm 3.5mm jack because then it's useless.
|
Posted by: Unknown_K on 2018-03-06 14:21:09 I wonder if the tubes are useful for early Lugable PCs.
