Building an internal grayscale card for the SE/30

I'd for sure buy a card that gave me grayscale in the internal 9 inch.

That is one sick purple inside 100% bolle-fied SE/30
Love it

I've got a spare 10" colour classic tube and analog board, and this got me thinking could an addon card like this be used with only a single such tube? paired with an upgraded se/30 and a 3d printed case it could make the ultimate compact colour se/30 if thats possible, i know for the mystic mod you can modify the analog board to enable 640x480?

Well apart from the connections you would have issues getting the display flush in the case because the CC screen is curved trinitron of course, not like the old Clinton’s

Edit i only see now that you wanted to 3D print case 😁

I'd buy one instantly as well for my SE/30 if they were ever released as either a kit or a finished product. 🙂

I'm still working to get my SE/30 working again. Waiting for a new 47uF tantalum cap after exploding. I thought the stripe was the - turns out to be the +.
Anyways I am for sure interested in such a card if it is for sale please let me know. I want to buy one.

Also interested in one of these.

I think @Bolle is busy with several projects at the moment. Not sure how much production was done.

Keenly interested in an internal display greyscale card for my SE/30, too. I've had it a wee while now—here's a pic from 2014—but I’m finally getting around to fixing it up. Got a BlueSCSI on the way, too.

Also very interested in Bolle's Ethernet equipped PDS riser, as seen in Action Retro's "cursed" SE/30 video series. I think I'd rather keep my SE/30 a 68030, but Ethernet and greyscale upgrades are very appealing.

Ha, now finally...

Went back to the drawing board and got the original Formac card out again. Lots of jumper wires and piggybacked chips wired in...
and we now can switch between 1bit and 8bit modes properly while keeping sync timing inside the proper boundaries to make the analog board happy.
A new hardware revision for testing the new design on a cloned card is on the way soon.

Totally normal computing! (As Action Retro would say). Amazing work @Bolle

Beautiful! 🤓

Welcome inspiration to persevere with my SE/30 restoration. I had it as far as the ? floppy icon a couple of times the other day, as I tried to figure out exactly what's leading it to Simasimac the whole rest of the time. Once I got that disk icon up the first time, I switched it off, plugged in a (known working) ADB mouse, and SIMASIMA! was my immediate reply. That flakiness makes me think it's something physical like the (stock) ROM or caps needing replaced. It's *almost* there, some of the time, is the maddening thing.

So yeah, inspire me with your graphics! The reward… the reward!

I'll maybe kick open a new thread on my '30 restoration, as I’m sure there's lots of fiddling still to come. This graphics card is what makes it worth the work.

Will they all have larger black borders or is that CRT just not adjusted?

The CRT isn’t adjusted correctly for the refresh rate it’s running at in those pictures. If you decide to bump it up to 512x384 at higher horizontal frequency the geometry likely needs to be adjusted after installing the card.
