Modern PSU for the SE/30

I just installed a seasonic ssp-250sub in my SE/30, Astec power supply case and when the fan kicks in I can hear it whirring away-- loud enough that it bugs me. Did anyone remove the fan on their installation?

I haven’t ever really heard the sound from the seasonic psu fan over the se30 fan but with the Astec psu case I’m thinking you’d be fine given that it’s pretty well ventilated and the se30 is a pretty low load. I’m also quite sure somebody did exactly this once in this thread.

Thanks, I bought a noctua fan to replace it , and if that quiets things down, great. If not I'll disconnect it and see how it goes

Right form factor, but that PSU is absolute trash - avoid like the plague. Typically one of the Seasonic flex SUB or SUG units are used.

Hi All,

I wanted to let folks know that there is a new option for SE/30 power supplies. With the help of other people in the forums, I've developed a universal drop in replacement power supply for the SE & SE/30. It is a direct replacement for all three types of power supplies - Astec, Sony, and Hitachi (made in Singapore). It only requires a small amount of soldering for the mains power connector for the respective manufacturer.
