| Announcing ZuluSCSI - A file-based SCSI device emulator |
Posted by: rabbitholecomputing on 2022-08-15 17:54:25
Still can't get the ZuluSCSI to flash updates from SD card root.
It was suggested I rename firmware .bin file:
AzulSCSI.bin
but that did nothing. What's the size of the SD card you're using? Can you send me a photo of the front and back of the card? |
Posted by: Cory5412 on 2022-08-16 09:24:04 Hey @dvincent - welcome in! I've hidden a couple of posts that just contained a large image. I think if you upload multiple images to a single post they'll come through as a slightly easier managed gallery view. Although, this is really an announcement thread, not necessarily a support thread, so you may want to send support queries to the Rabbit Hole Computing email, listed on https://www.rabbitholecomputing.com/contact-us/ |

Posted by: Jockelill on 2022-08-20 11:39:02 Did anyone get the Zuluscsi Mini to work on the Mac Plus? Mine can't find the disk. It works great with LC2, LC3, 475 and Iici, but not the plus ๐ |
Posted by: Byte Knight on 2022-08-20 21:23:15 Any plans to do a version of ZuluSCSI in the SCSI2SD V5.5 footprint / enclosure? That would be hellacool... |

Did anyone get the Zuluscsi Mini to work on the Mac Plus? Mine can't find the disk. It works great with LC2, LC3, 475 and Iici, but not the plus ๐ The Plus' SCSI implementation is a little wonky. Your issue is probably because the plus doesn't provide termination power. There is apparently a modification to add termunation power, but I've not needed to look into it. A search for old posts on the topic or on a search engine might dig something up. |

Well I know it does not provide power, so I have run the Zuluscsi with a usb power adapter, but that still didnโt help๐.

so I will try and do this mod and see what happens. @Jockelill Please try the attached development firmware, and let us know if it results in any change of behavior for you with your Mac Plus.
The diode mod won't fix your issue, but it's always preferable, for the sake of convenience, if nothing else, to be able to power it from termination power. |

I'm using this HDA from Macintosh Garden:
This is a ready to go bootable disk image that is properly formatted to work on Macintosh Plus. It can be used with a BlueSCSI or similar device. Includes 7.0.1 (as blessed startup folder) and 6.0.8 (de-blessed) as well as some tools, including tools to flash the Mac ROM-inator by BMOW.
macintoshgarden.org
I will test a few different .dsk and hda files now.
Do I need a special zuluscsi.ini for the plus? |
Posted by: rabbitholecomputing on 2022-08-21 12:37:54 Yes, on the Mac Plus, you must have the following two settings present in a zuluscsi.ini file:
To quote Michael McMaster (Creator of SCSI2SD), "The Mac Plus is troublesome as it's bootrom code doesn't follow the SCSI standards. The SCSI standards recommend a SCSI selection abort timeout of 250ms, but the Mac Plus bootroms quit before even 1ms has expired."
[SCSI]
EnableSelLatch=1
SelectionDelay=0
If that doesn't change anything, please add Debug=1 to your log file, and re-attempt to boot. Then, upload your zululog file in a new GitHub Discussion, at https://github.com/ZuluSCSI/ZuluSCSI-firmware/discussions/new |

Then, upload your zululog file in a new GitHub Discussion, at https://github.com/ZuluSCSI/ZuluSCSI-firmware/discussions/new It worked, kinda! Thanks for the help! It boots but then bombs finder with "address error". I just did a quick test this morning, but I will do another with some other systems tonight. This was with the above .dsk from Macintosh Garden. |
Posted by: jasa1063 on 2022-08-27 07:54:54 FYI, I just tried the 1.07 firmware on my Mac IIci and my system either freezes on startup or gets a address error trying to boot System 7.1. I rolled back to 1.06 and everything is working again. |
Posted by: rabbitholecomputing on 2022-08-27 09:47:46 Thanks. Since this is the first report we've had of any firmware issues with 1.0.7, unless we can get a debug log from you, it's going to be exceedingly difficult to understand the root cause of this problem. We don't have a IIci to test with. |
Posted by: jasa1063 on 2022-08-27 10:12:24 I will try and get one to you this weekend. I am going to be out of town until tomorrow. |
Posted by: olePigeon on 2022-08-27 16:36:14 @rabbitholecomputing Someone's probably mentioned this before, but how about an alternative PCB layout that matches the screw holes for an old SCSI controller board? You can simply screw it directly to an old (preferably broken) Quantum HDD, then mount the HDD like normal. Stealth ZuluSCSI (maybe make the PCB black so it's sealthy.) ๐

Thanks. Since this is the first report we've had of any firmware issues with 1.0.7, unless we can get a debug log from you, it's going to be exceedingly difficult to understand the root cause of this problem. We don't have a IIci to test with. I enabled debugging via SW2 on the the ZuluSCSI and have attached the log files for both v1.0.6 and 1.0.7 firmware versions from my Macintosh IIci. I hope this helps you find the source of the problem. |
Posted by: jasa1063 on 2022-09-20 20:05:07 I previously reported that firmware version 1.0.7 did not work on Mac IIci, but the just released version 1.0.8 works just fine. |
Posted by: gcp on 2022-09-28 19:32:58 Picked one up based on the discussion in this thread; its working great in my IIci. Thinking it will be super useful to be able to shuttle data from modern/emulated environments over to vintage iron. |
Posted by: MattBranth on 2022-10-25 22:40:36 Hi!
I just ordered a ZuluSCSI Mini for my Macintosh Plus. I have a few questions regarding its use:
- If I understand correctly, the Zulu must be powered via USB on the Mac plus ?
- Does the configuration file (zuluscsi.ini) offered on Github work as is, or does it need to be modified?
- Which system do you advise to use for the Mac plus?
- Where to find on the net .hda files for mac systems, softwares and games?
Thanks for your help! |
Posted by: MattBranth on 2022-10-26 01:30:30 ...and I add a question:
- Do I need a special cable to link the ZuluSCSI Mini to Macintosh Plus, for example a DB25M to DB25M cable? |
