I got this one on ebay, has a 20gb HD, Upgraded GPU, 400mhz g3, 490mb of ram, and it is a rev B!!!!!!
Having lots of fun with it, I posted from It!!!!
Just one issue,
It does not have OSX nor do I own the full version.
I am shure it will be faster with OSx as it is multitasking. OS 9 is not.

Cool - you're welcome to join my club of G3 advocates 🙂 (basically we believe that G3s are the best Macs that ever have or ever will be made, any newer Mac has no advantage over them and is a waste of space that could otherwise be filled with , and Apple suck more than Microsoft ever have or ever will because of their decision to kill the G3s 😛 ). Stick Tiger on there - it's brilliant on my G3 400/640 MB/32 MB Radeon, and as yours is a Bluey you won't even have to spend a week fiddling with XPostFacto in order to get it to work!

My Digital Audio 533 has a faster (133mhz) bus, an AGP 4x slot, faster CPU than fastest G3 B&W, more PCI slots for expansion, namesake Digital Audio sound processor, Gigabit ethernet, a better keyboard and mouse, can use ADC monitors, is bootable from firewire or usb drives, will take more memory, and the G4 has Altivec for running enabled apps. The upgrades that are available for the G4 machines are also better and the G3 is being dropped in Leopard. No advantages, indeed. 😛 😛

I see that not all of us here have been enlightened yet 🙂 You just have to try one and you'll never look bac..., umm, forwards... 😉 Honestly, the G3 era was Apple's peak: great designs, solid build quality, thrashed Intel, true innovation in the PC industry (Apple were one of the first with USB, DVD-RW, WiFi etc), the bridge between Mac past and Mac today, and MS just replied to all this with Windows Me...

And how much did your DA cost? And how much did my G3 cost? Case closed 😛 Just because Ferraris are really good, that doesn't mean all other cars suck, or even aren't as good overall - cost is a factor too 😛

My G3 cost nothing, and that included two LCD monitors, an Extended II keyboard and 640 MB of good-quality RAM 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛 😛
(A DA is therefore infinitely more costly to acquire than a G3, which I think is more important than any supposed benefits of one - it isn't infinitely better!)
🙂 G3 Forever! I don't care what Apple say, I don't want to use OS X ME Edition anyway 😛

Bah! The 9600 with the Mach V motherboard and 350mhz 604eev gave the G3's a run for their money on most benchmarks back in the day and had more expansion slots, which was why they re-introduced them after they were discontinued to make way for the beige G3.

Make sure you do the firmware upgrade before you try to put OS X on that, or put in a G4 CPU... or else.

I'm sure I've heard of iMacs being permanently killed by attempts to install OS X without updating the firmware, so maybe the situation is the same for the B&W - pretty silly though, as surely a lot of people aren't aware of these firmware updates and think they can just put OS X on?

Can I join? I LOVE my wallstreet - use it way more than my Mini nowadays. Well, when it's not having occasional battery issues but I hardly think it's the wallstreet's fault.

Of course you can, as long as you believe in all of the things that I said that we believe in - that would of course mean getting rid of any Macs newer than G3 that you happen to have, as otherwise having those suggests that you think there is some reason to have a Mac newer than G3 🙂 I would possibly let you off keeping an Intel Mac, as long as you stick something over the Apple logo and install only Windows on it, as then it's a PC not a Mac 😛
