| Found this first Gen Apple LCD display for cheap. Anyone have one? |

Going to try it out with a period correct (1998) Beige G3 Power PC I just picked up. Got it for only 20 bucks at the local computer recycler. Looks like people try to sell them for silly amounts on line. Anyway, we'll see how it works when the machine gets here. I may sell it, seeing what I can get, to fund other projects down the road, and get a less valuable display for the Beige G3, which reminds me of my old Performa. I just had the normal Beige CRT with that thing. |
Posted by: Durosity on 2026-01-07 16:04:23 I also have one of these, and also the Graphite DVI version that appeared a couple of years later. I'm only missing the B&W G3 version that was identical to yours, sans the colour scheme and had a VGA connector instead. These are nice displays for the time! Yours is in much better condition than mine! |

The extension post doesn't stay up except precariously all the way up, but other than that, in pretty good shape! will see how it fires up and works once my Beige G3 gets here! |
Posted by: Fizzbinn on 2026-01-07 18:11:01 It's a cool monitor! I always wondered if the color scheme was considered for Blue and White G3...
Some info about the stand not staying up/potential fix:

Posted by: Joopmac on 2026-01-10 11:31:51 I like mine, but its not cool that only the later beige models can run it at 1024x768 |

Posted by: Joopmac on 2026-01-10 23:50:49 Yes it has, but I like to run it on q700/950 or IIfx
It does work on 1024x768 with a Emachines card but not Radius 24XP |

Posted by: sunvalleylaw on 2026-01-11 21:03:11 The combination is up and running! But not sure I’m getting all I can out of the monitor. It doesn’t look like the settings are allowing me to use all the colors it can, and get as much brightness and clarity as I should be able to. I’ll read more and try to figure out more later. |

I think you need the 4MB VRAM upgrade for the PowerMacintosh G3 built-in video to do millions of colors at 1024x768 |
Posted by: sunvalleylaw on 2026-01-11 21:14:09 Ok, thanks! I eill see if I can get and install that! |
Posted by: sunvalleylaw on 2026-01-11 23:16:43 And I checked. I have 2MB VRAM currently in this machine. |
Posted by: Byrd on 2026-01-11 23:28:09 The ATI Rage from a Blue&White G3 is a decent upgrade for any beige G3, much faster than onboard and super cheap. The beige G3 SGRAM is harder to find these days. |
Posted by: Joopmac on 2026-01-12 00:24:44 Its nice, and scary like a portable😉 mine also has a bit of that red hue, it dissapears a bit when its warmed up. I think harvesting some blue/white displays (sometimes i buy one for 15-20 euros) for spare panels would be smart |

What options do you get under ‘Flat Panel’ in the Monitors & Sound control panel? |

B to D trayloader iMac, or from contemporary (to the Beige G3) ATI graphics cards. But often easier to get a Rage 128, as you say. |

And clearly something’s not right because if I walk away from the computer for a little while, and then come back, the display ends up, looking like this until I power it off with a power button and then power it back on.

Looks like this after I power cycle it. The display, not the computer.

Well, for 20 bucks, it was worth checking out and it at least works a little bit. I’ll be interested in figuring out if I can restore this. |

Cool. What’s the Tracking button do?

Oh dear, could it be needing a recap?
