| Can any one identify what this might be? |
Posted by: mmmlinux on 2023-03-21 19:50:54 Saw this SE on facebook, has some centronics connector in the expansion port. any ideas on what this is? |
Posted by: bedroom on 2023-03-21 20:58:01 it looks like a scsi port, but i have no idea what it could be used for. |
Posted by: Iesca on 2023-03-21 21:06:05 I'm guessing it's a 36-pin Centronics parallel printer port? |

I'm guessing it's a 36-pin Centronics parallel printer port? That's my guess as well |
Posted by: mmmlinux on 2023-03-21 22:21:39 were there adapters that allowed for a parallel printer port? |
Posted by: Phipli on 2023-03-22 01:22:44 It could be absolutely anything - the centronix is like the dsub or din series ports : they're not tied to a standard. You can't assume it is a specific connector visually. The "if it fits, it works" thing was not valid in the 80s, you could break things like that.
Parallel is one option, it might also be controlling some proprietary hardware. |
Posted by: joshc on 2023-03-22 01:42:22 Now you have to buy it to find out what it is. 😀 |

Now you have to buy it to find out what it is. 😀 Yeah that's what I was afraid of... |
Posted by: Scott Baret on 2023-03-22 20:54:21 I saw that one too. I'm also guessing parallel printer (I know there were external adapters for people who wanted to connect parallel printers so I'm sure they also made PDS and NuBus cards).
Who wants to buy it for the team? |
Posted by: mmmlinux on 2023-04-06 15:17:49 Survey says. |
Posted by: Phipli on 2023-04-06 15:25:39
Survey says. Scientific I/O board. Data logging and control. I see mentions of using it as an oscilloscope, controlling electron tunnelling microscopes and building custom measurement and processing instruments. Shame its missing what it plugged into.
I'd put it into the same category as a National Instruments card, something like either a GPIB or MIO card? |
Posted by: cheesestraws on 2023-04-06 15:26:51 Oooh. Any software on the machine? |

Yeah - I think it was marketed as a cheaper alternative to that kind of thing (?) |

Yeah - I think it was marketed as a cheaper alternative to that kind of thing (?) Cheaper and easier - "no programming".

Posted by: mmmlinux on 2023-04-06 15:34:30 HDD is unhappy, i'll try to revive it but you know how these piles of spinning rust are. Fully decked out with 4mb of ram though, which is great because I don't even have to think about touching the plastic RAM sockets. The computer is also covered in children's stickers so I'm not sure if the software was even still on there at all. |

Oooh. Any software on the machine? Best I could do with wayback machine. I wrapped all the downloads in a zip for neatness. |
