Well I found another Prototype....iisi

So I found yet another prototype this is a more PVT based machine but there is some very odd features. To start the EGRET is unlike any I've seen before I can't find any Macs that use this variation of EGRET. Of course being that it was close to production there are no on Board ROMs so we'll see if that's a prototype ROM too. A few chips look slightly different from the six actual standard and OEM iisi boards I own. I noticed as well PVT is marked on the right angle NUBUS adapter and also on the bottom of the case. Supposedly this is running System 7.06 ("whatever that is?"). I added images below but being that I haven't received said machine we have to wait and see. Photos I have are below.

Ooh, can’t wait to see more! Lucky that the maxell battery hasn’t toasted it yet.

So the thing to check on this is the clock speed. Legend says Apple dropped the speed to 20MHz from 25MHz quite late in development so it might have a 25MHz rated processor and even a clock to run at 25?

One to get recapped - IIsis seem to be very prone to cap damage.

It's extremely lucky that that one is running at all, the PSUs on these have awful caps too. At least the HDD in there is a Conner, which seem to be more reliable than Quantums. I believe they can have the rubber bumper issue, but I don't think Conner put the bumpers under the platters like Quantum did, should hopefully be fixable (or working) to archive whatever "System 7.06" is.

Oh definitely get a full recap somehow everything works and boots. Here's a photo of the CPU and Oscillators.

How are all these prototypes drawn to you? Lol

Looks like a 20mhz 030 to me.

I'm a bit skeptical as usual... why are the PVT markings just on stickers/in handwriting? Usually they are printed into the case, and usually the case looks different than the production one. Hopefully you didn't get conned. This sort of thing is really easy to fake.

Here's the EGRET.

I agree we shall see but from what I've seen I kinda think it's a late PVT.

I have an XC 25MHZ board too. The EGRET matches at least the Apple Number, however Maybe this was previous to this board like I say a late PVT.

When you receive this please post photos of the ROM SIMM. I’d love to compare it with my IIsi prototype.

The board was battery bombed and completely destroyed. It had an Apple confidential ROM SIMM which I retained. Dated June 1990.

Looks like it's running System 6.0.7. Shouldn't it have 6.0.6 on it, since that was supposed to be the shipping OS for the IIsi, LC, and Classic?

Who knows I guess we find out sometime next week

I would expect a prototype IIsi to have a modified 6.0.5 or the 6.0.6 alpha/beta.

Have no clue I'll see when it arrives he had a picture of the finder but it was so blurry I couldn't make anything out.

My board that has the xc03025 has a strange serial number on it's case though. I might have two lol.
