Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-04-28 20:16:56 I gained a 1.83Ghz Core Duo Mac Mini with 2GB RAM for free this last weekend. Hard drive had failed so I setup the previous owners new Mini for them and they gave me the old one. Swapped in a spare 500GB HD and installed Leopard. Running great and just put all my media on it. It does run warm though. Also bought a 06 15" PowerBook G4 in excellent condition and have a RAM upgrade and new battery coming in all for under $100. It's been a good week. I'm an avid Mac collector though my collection has grown smaller over the last couple years.

Whereabouts in Northern California are you?

Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-04-29 07:12:00 Well I found a complete iBook Indigo 366 on eBay. I have a Tangerine case that's practically brand new that I'm going to swap the insides into.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2016-04-29 12:54:18 Neat! I'm in Ukiah quite often for school, so a meetup might work. Don't know about next week though.
I'm looking to downsize some of my excess stuff. Want any?

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2016-04-29 21:41:26 Do people use minis as their main (retro?) machine or just headless servers these days?
|
Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-04-29 22:11:24 It's a play unit right now. Going to be my home entertainment Mac soon. And probably a machine for the wife to surf on as well.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2016-04-30 10:14:01 Wow! That's quite a beautiful example!!
Is it a standard //c, or is it a //c Plus (built in power supply, a few other improvements)?

Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-04-30 10:33:47 It's just a //c.

Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-05-18 12:22:35 Freebie Craigslist find. Broken screen but it still works! And the best news is that it's a 1.67! Needs a really good cleaning but it came with a brand new power adapter. Can't complain.

|
Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-05-18 12:30:20 Pulled the RAM cover. It's a PowerBook 5,7.

Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-05-18 12:35:49 Well she's not totally dead. Battery holds a charge!

Posted by: belgaonkar on 2016-05-18 14:05:54 wow, if its a high res model, good luck finding a new screen. But I mean you can't complain if its free 🙂

wow, if its a high res model, good luck finding a new screen. But I mean you can't complain if its free 🙂 Yeah well I have a donor 1.5Ghz 17" that I'm about to get from a co worker. It should be a straight swap.

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2016-05-18 16:58:21 Only the final 1.67ghz DDR2 models had the high rez screen (15" and 17").
|
Posted by: macgeek18 on 2016-05-18 18:35:43 Surprisingly it is somewhat usable.
