| Looking for GBMac version 1.3.1 - offering a 500$ reward (via paypal) to anyone who can archive/upload it |
Posted by: BacioiuC on 2021-09-06 06:28:32 For the past 6 months or so I scoured the internet in search for a copy of GBMac v1.3.1 - a gameboy emulator for 68K macs. As opposed to all other gameboy emulators for 68k macs, this one is extremely performant and ran quite a lot of games at a high framerate even on my SE/30. There is a version (1.2.6b) uploaded to Macintosh Garden however that one is the "freeware" version, with less games supported and without the ability to save game progress. Version 1.3.1 was only released to people who purchased it and it has never been archived anywhere.
Macintosh Garden's listing also mentions that the app is still available for sale, however the developers e-mail address isn't available anymore (any email you sends receives a bounce-back mentioning that no such account exists). I've tried searching for an updated email from the dev without luck.
As such, I'm putting a $500 bounty to be paid via paypal to the person who can find a working copy of gbMac v1.3.1 version and upload it to Macintosh Garden. If by any chance someone knows how to get in touch with the original developer, let me know. I'm willing to throw quite a bit of money towards the dev to release it as freeware. |
Posted by: ronan on 2021-09-06 07:24:53 I don't know if it will help but I think that the mail address PBC03243@niftyserve.or.jp does not bounce back. |

I don't know if it will help but I think that the mail address PBC03243@niftyserve.or.jp does not bounce back. Already tried reaching out to it some months ago with no luck. |

Already tried reaching out to it some months ago with no luck. Damn...
This looks like an interesting treasure hunt ! 😛 |
Posted by: Bolle on 2021-09-06 08:59:35 Ohhh, I do know I have gbMac in my archives from back then somewhere - I doubt it’s 1.3.1 because I didn’t buy it, but I got it from *somewhere* before the great internet age.
Will have to check later on. |
Posted by: JWrigley on 2021-09-12 23:12:51 Darn, that would have been too easy 😛 |
Posted by: Watchsmart on 2021-09-12 23:30:56 Edit: Never mind. I see that the dev is "Hideki Naito"
Do you have the name of the developer? I can try asking some of my friends in Japan to scour the Japanese blog world, but it would be great to give them more to go on! |
Posted by: sfiera on 2021-09-13 02:26:25 The kanji for the developer’s name are probably “内藤 秀樹”, but I couldn’t find any more contemporary references with that either. |
Posted by: olePigeon on 2021-09-13 10:46:46 Download.com and Tucows were the eventual software blackholes. Everyone started hot-linking to their downloads instead of hosting their own like people used to do, and now countless pieces of software have vanished off the planet when those websites died.
Remember when people used to mirror FTP sites so we wouldn't lose files incase one of them went down? |

Download.com and Tucows were the eventual software blackholes. Apparently someone on Reddit took it upon themselves to patch one of those blackholes by assembling an archive of pre-2009 softwares on Download.com:
I think it mainly includes PC software, though, but one would have to look through it to be certain.

Posted by: Byrd on 2021-09-13 21:06:42 Hands up if you spent a good five minutes with your Google-fu skills to try to find it 😀
No $500 here. |
Posted by: BacioiuC on 2021-09-14 03:15:58 I think I spent about 6 months trying all avenues, even going on actual hotline servers and even paying to access one in search of it! I think the best bet is to try and find the original developer. My initial plan was to get in touch with him (tried LinkedIN, e-mail, github with no replies yet) and see if I can pay for distributions right of the emulator and put it available for everyone.
I'll keep looking and the bounty is still on! |
Posted by: warmech on 2021-09-14 07:30:36 Hell, maybe you'll get lucky and can get ahold of the source if they ever respond. |
Posted by: beachycove on 2021-09-14 08:03:31 One or two of our members live in Japan, do they not? There might be a lead there. |

Posted by: Angelgreat on 2021-10-10 14:32:07 Looks like GBMac version 1.3.1 is lost media. |

Looks like GBMac version 1.3.1 is lost media. Well find it! Hopefully starting with next month since my budget is thin for this one 😀! But we'll find it, made it my mission to be able to play gen 1 and 2 pokemon games on the CCII. |
Posted by: Angelgreat on 2021-11-03 12:29:02 2 months, still no GBmac 1.3.1. Should we just make a new GB emulator instead? |
Posted by: aplmak on 2021-11-04 17:02:41 I may have it! Back in the day I used Hotline Client... oh I miss those days.. I have SuperNES and NES with tons of games and I think I have GameBoy with games... would have to do some serious searching... lol |
