. . . booted to crackling speakers and :?: twice, bombed upon booting from TechTool Pro CD in a known good drive. Now it doesn't power up, no biggie! ;D

EXCELLENT plastics and LCD. especially the hinge-stress-crack free lid!

~ Macintosh PowerBook 1400c ~ 133MHz ~ vintage for parts ~

Might be worth checking that the heatsink & associated paste/tape/pad is still making good contact. Amongst other things...

I may troubleshoot it a bit, but it's definitely a PartsBook. I've already got several of the 166MHz model in c and cs versions. Beater's beat lid is in dire need of a stress crack free replacement panel and the same kind of troubleshooting of it's G3/WiFi 1400c goodness, while the extra clear lid is a welcome addition to the 1400 squad . . .

. . . even if it does has the same BookCover as the 1400c I recently bottom-fished the 'Bay for the Video Card in its gullet. 😉

@ ian.finder: from the above, you can likely tell that I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment. :approve:

This reminds me, I've got languishing trades for a couple more 1400s with comrade's in need of other of my goodies . . .

. . . waaaaay too many PMs to sift thru . . . contact me guys! 😉

I didn't realize that you had so many 1400's. Are they really that great? I confess that they are one of the few major models that I never had, even briefly. If I didn't already have so many lappys, would it be worth trying to pick one up? (The ones on ebay usually seem out of my price range.

 FINALLY! You can expect a Karma rebound, good buddy, PM addy please! Beater/1400c/Wifi/G3 almost weaned me off Duos . . .

. . . best KBD ever . . . mit PCMCIA and a VidCard slot!!

This listing looked kind of interesting. Only a CS, but it comes with a SuperDisk drive.
Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-04-05 13:27:25
The Zip Drive is the only thing missing from my 1400 collection. I've even got the BookEndz Dock for Beater and one for the Pismo (BeaterIII) so I just need one for the PDQ (BeaterII). ;D

My car is a beater as well. ;D

The CS was tempting to me as a parts systems (since I have a 1400c coming 🙂 , but my ebay budget is severely cramped this month due to issues at work. :-(

FWIW, I usually get the Zip for everything I have too as well as the SuperDisk, on principle. I only have the Bookendz, though, for the 12 PowerBook G4 as they usually are too pricey for my blood.

JT,

Take another look at the CS (the $2.99 one)... that *is* a Zip drive in it (I thought it was a SuperDisk at first).

Yeppers, it's on my watch list! }🙂

I was gonna ask if it was on yours before bidding. 😉

Watching, not going to bid... have at it!

One could always turn one into an ultimate SCSI expander }🙂

The $3.24 PartsBook arrived a bit borked today, "packed" in a bubblepack envelope of all things. :🙂

Zip bezel is now in six pieces . . . oh well . . . we'll see . . .

. . . meanwhile, there's a 775MB HDD and 56MB of RAM in it to be harvested and transplanted into jr's KarmaPack! :approve:

This $32.00 RAMpacked1400 arrived earlier than the $3.24 PartsBook, even with the included shipping, it's not quite as economical as the other two conquests. But this puppy is well worth the price for the fourth cLid and 3rd MaxRAM config for the 1400 pile.

I've been playing around with the 1400s today, I made a half-hearted attempt at locating all of them. I know more must be hiding in various hacks project boxen because all of these boot, so there are at least a couple of actual PartsBooks remaining to be found. The pile now stands at 19" tall. Four 1400c/Five 1400cs, two VidCards and two G3s in the pile.

I dug up an old PM thread and hope to kick start a languishing trade with a comrade for another 1400. [ ;D ]

Are you ever going to let go of one of those 1400's?

That sounds like a lot.

I should talk, though :-/ .

Dare I ask what one does with 9 1400s? I have trouble keeping two duos in circulation! ..and I'm not even sure if the second one counts as "in circulation" seeing as it just serves files.

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-04-22 20:38:27
I didn't say I had nine, I said I found nine and that I must have more somewhere because these all boot! Four of them I've gotten recently for specific parts and I hope to trade for one more. I just figured out where a certified dead one is located, so the pile is a bit higher, I think I may have at least one more PartsBook.

I'll be keeping enough to keep Beater in spare parts and another mintier specimen. One of the best is going to jr, because he's sent me oodles of stuff for just the cost of shipping, what comes around goes around . . . but I'm a terrible procrastinator . . .

. . . two or three packages are going out tomorrow, one to another member that's banked bit of Karma at my end and two to very patient trading comrades. :I

At some point I'll rebuild a few of the 1400cs versions to pass on, but I've been mulling over several hacks for the 1400c variety. }🙂

Hmm... I wonder if one of those "very patient trading comrades" is me, by chance? :?:
By the way, if/when you get one of those 1400cs's fixed up, keep me in mind as I'm possibly interested in obtaining one eventually (in terms of laptops, my interest lies in PBG4s and early Intel MacBook(Pro)'s currently).

p.s. Who is "jr"? Someone in this forum??

Posted by: Trash80toHP_Mini on 2013-04-22 22:48:53
Yep, I made out the address tags this morning, tomorrow I'll be packing and going to the P.O. before work if all goes well, could run into WED though.

Keep in mind that, of the nine lids I have, three or four have failing plastics, to build the DreamBook 1400c, one may have to source two or three just to get the cLCD, an uncracked lid, adequate memory. FDD, CD-ROM, and the 166 processor card version. An intact, functional @$$flap is a bit hard to come by as well. That seems to be the least expensive route to get the parts, it takes a PILE!!! Add a real stroke of luck to get just the 8 bit VidCard . . .

. . . much less the pure unobtanium 16 bit VidCard. :🙂

Look in the sigs on this page for jr! 😉
