Posted by: Macdrone on 2013-03-09 17:03:52 I guess I should have my own I guess as I get stuff pretty regular and such.
So I offered 20 on ebay for a 512k so it should be here soon. Needs caps for sure and more. But for 20 I hope the bucket will make me happy. Well see if I can fix it up, pretty ugly tho.

Posted by: Macdrone on 2013-03-09 22:15:21 Well I best offered a guy for a macintosh portable M5126 and he accepted. It doesn't work of course so I should be able to figure it out and more to come when it gets here.

Posted by: mcdermd on 2013-03-09 23:27:35 A Portable for a 512k? You're a nice guy, Jason.
|
Posted by: TheMacGuy on 2013-03-09 23:32:27 I think he means he got both a Portable and 512k.
Anyways, nice finds! I'm also working on possibly getting a local 512k, so lets see how that goes. 🙂

Posted by: mcdermd on 2013-03-09 23:37:33 In that case, nice work, 'drone! I have no idea why but I really like my Portable. I think it's the crisp screen and the hokiness of such a giant Luggable. I remember buying it with a twin for $20 total from a guy that had a stack of IIgs'es about ten years ago.

Posted by: Macdrone on 2013-03-10 01:03:26 Yes I am getting both and some guy is sending me another 5120 portable for shipping. Ill fix it up and sell that one I am thinking.

Posted by: uniserver on 2013-03-10 13:21:12 could one of you guys hook a multimeter up to your MacPortable and tell me what the exact voltage is of your 6v battery pack?
also when you put your portable back up on the shelf do you pull the battery pack?

Posted by: Ike on 2013-03-10 15:03:54 The 512k Looks like it has some problems with the analog video circuit...? it looks different than the standard 'jailbar' pattern to me.
Very nice finds Macdrone! Too bad we don't get any affordable (if any at all!) 512k's, 128k's or portables in The Netherlands.

Posted by: CC_333 on 2013-03-10 15:15:37 Ike: Yes, I know.
They're somewhat hard to come by over here in the US too, unfortunately (at least since I've gotten into the hobby).
However, they can be found if one is willing to scour around a bit.

Posted by: Ike on 2013-03-10 15:39:33 Yeah and since i don't really NEED any of those macs, i'm still happy with my fairly standard collection of things 🙂 i enjoy every mac.
We all just have to be patient.

Posted by: TheMacGuy on 2013-03-10 15:54:37 Yeah any 68ks are hard to find, and when you do find they want EXTRAORDINARY prices for them. I found another 512k, with the keyboard, mouse, power cable, and carrying bag, but the lady wants $100!! I can't afford that much for a vintage computer! Plus I have my 512kE (minus the bag), so I have at least 1 compact. I want to expand it, but the current prices are outrageous!

Posted by: Macdrone on 2013-03-10 16:15:45 Just keep looking. Be patient. There is a guy close to here that has 2 SE's and a bunch of beige macs for 125. But it's a three hour drive for me. Only thing he has I don't is a 4400.
|
Posted by: Ike on 2013-03-10 16:28:35 I guess I'm very very lucky after all to be in the NL!
SE's, Classics, Pluses for €50 or LESS.
(not to mention nobody around here cares for any of the other 68k or PPC stuff, prices as low as free)
Also, since we are a small country, pickup is quite easy and shipping up to 10kg is only €6,75.

Posted by: Macdrone on 2013-03-10 17:05:20 I have some duplicate machines that I need to get running ten plan on putting up here if people want them. Having multiple pluses and se's and such now that i have had fun with them Its time to spread it around. Ill still acquire new toys to play with but if they can be enjoyed they should be.

I'd be interested!! $100 is a stretch for me as well, but I could probably pull it off!!
Actually, for such a complete set up (minus S/W and boxes), that's a pretty good deal.
I'll have to search around for it!

That and some VERY interesting old Tektronics workstations and a couple of old HPUX boxes. He wants a fair shade better than $125 for that stuff, though.
|
Posted by: Macdrone on 2013-03-11 03:15:56 He said he would give me all the macs for 125
|
Posted by: mcdermd on 2013-03-11 09:19:32 He told me he would sell ONE of the HPs for $150. Several hundred for the Tek workstations. Like you, the only Mac he had that I was slightly interested in was the 4400 and it was missing parts (the top case, for one).
