Posted by: Mike Richardson on 2009-01-06 17:20:15 Box full of ZIF processors.
Anywhere from G3 233 MHz up to G4 450 MHz.
Must be at least 100 processors and half are G4.
From the recycler.

|
Posted by: Christopher on 2009-01-06 21:00:33 Trade you a G3 500MHz for a G4 450. 😛

Posted by: Mike Richardson on 2009-01-06 22:05:36 G4 400 MHz/1 MB ZIF, tested - no heatsink - how about $15 shipped ea. Quick, easy upgrade for B&W. From the looks of it, there are about 40 of them here, I just need to test them.
There's also at least 30 of the G3 450 MHz/1 MB. $12 shipped ea.
I have nearly every speed here...
G3 233, 266, 275, 300, 333, 366, 400, 450
G4 350, 400, 450

what would shipping to europe be ?
|
Posted by: Mike Richardson on 2009-01-06 23:23:37
shame what would shipping to europe be ? Add $5 to all the prices for Europe. So $20 shipped for the G4 400, etc.

Will any work in a beige G3? I have to check. This might de-rail my pimped out G3 AIO project if they don't.

Posted by: superpantoufle on 2009-01-07 14:33:31 Hey, that sounds interesting! Do you still have a 450 MHz available? Do you confirm this will work seamlessly in a B&W G3?
I may be a happy european customer, too!

Posted by: Unknown_K on 2009-01-07 14:55:18 I could be wrong but some G3/4s were clock locked to 100 FSB and other will do 66/83 fine.

Posted by: Mike Richardson on 2009-01-07 16:42:56 I am testing G4 400 MHz processors right now. The testing machine is a B&W G3 400 MHz.
G4s work perfectly in a B&W G3, but you must apply a patch to the ROM, because Apple decided to block G4s in order to make people buy G4 towers. The patch is at http://eshop.macsales.com/Tech/FTP/newertech/BWG4Enabler.sit - apply BEFORE installing the G4.
Additionally, you must update the jumper block to correspond to the new speed. This is not a problem if you have a 400 MHz G3 and want to go to a 400 MHz G4, but to increase your speed you need several small jumpers and a jumper guide (see http://www.dgweb.ca/g3/part5.html). I not recommend overclocking the G4 using the stock heatsink.
I have several tested G4 400 MHz processors, with 1 MB L2 cache, the price is $15 each shipped USA, $20 each shipped elsewhere. Send PayPal to mike@silvernetworks.net (no credit cards).
Note: These are tested in B&W G3 only right now. I will test in Beige G3 soon.

I could be wrong but some G3/4s were clock locked to 100 FSB You are. All ZIF modules apart from some third party upgrades are motherboard clocked. The exceptions can have their settings changed through onboard jumper blocks or switches/dials.

This might de-rail my pimped out G3 AIO project if they don't. no worries mate, i bought a G3 450mhz CPU from a B&W from ebay for my AIO in my sig, it works great but you have to decide between 433mhz or 466mhz due to the 66mhz bus speed. i use to know a site that showed you what jumpers did what.
i even tried a G4 zif from a Yikes G4, it works but gets detected as a 604 CPU and shows half of the L1 cache and no L2 cache. i tried most of the CPU/cache enablers and all would cause the system to crash on bootup. with the CPU running like that everything ran uber slow. i did wish i could have gotten this to work out.
but my AIO is in my sig, parted out and in storage :'(
