Horray! I've always wanted to screw around with one of these.

It's a 117mhz, 16mb, but thats a start.

nice machine

the hard drive looks to be positivly tiny though and the machine has a 64 mb ram ceilling but if you can live with that its a great machine

I think the guy selling it misrepresented the HD space -- he also said that this was Apple's first portable machine and the first they shipped with color, which is obviously false.

Crap!

Strike One: its a 1400cs

Strike Two: The LCD was destroyed in shipping.

I'm seeing about a full or partial refund so pick up a new panel.

strike one is not so bad its still a 1400

strike 2 :...bollocks ! crap shipping you should at least get a partial refund

Look on the bright side - now you can replace the display with a TFT display - the 1400cs and 1400c both used the same mobo (in fact, the only difference between 1400 mobos is between the 1400/117 and 1400/133 or 166 - any 1400 mobo will drive any 1400 display), meaning that the display from any 1400 will drop straight in.

That's crap, it was clearly sold by a dishonest seller. The 1400cs display is utter rubbish, and the "c" displays are much harder to obtain. Hope you get your cashola all back.

He's going to give me $10 back (bought for $20). I will have to get a new screen.

Interestingly enough, there seems to be something in the expansion slot(?) that I can't identify.

If you're looking at the back of the 'book, the expansion slot opening on the right side has an exposed circuit board with 2 LEDs on it. I'll have to check it out.

On the bright side, if I can't find a screen I know I can part it out for more than the $20 investment I've put into it, or give it to someone here.

There were only two expansion modules available for that 'book; an external video adapter, or an ethernet card. If it's the latter, they're pretty tough to find; more likely that if it has LED's on it (link and activity).

Yea, but there is no ethernet port. Just a black transistor/diode looking thing.

Thats the IR port, with the window missing that should be there. Standard feature on 1400's.

Ahhh... didnt think of that.

Damn.

just wanted to throw this out there, if you decide to get rid of it, i might be able to take it off of your hands.

Hope you get the refund. Powerbookguy has replacement screens as low as $30 for 1400. Dunno about quality but it's been around awhile (the company) and is practically a PB "industry standard" in some circles. Hope all goes well!

I always hate shoddy packing, just because there's tons of newspaper and even bubble wrap doesn't mean that the LCD isn't at risk!!!

Crap!

I did get a $10 refund (payed $30 including shipping).

Another member of the forum here is generously sending me a near-complete 1400cs with no hard drive and a broken keyboard, so I'll take the best of each and put them together to make one good one.

If I just cant stand the cs screen, I'll try and look for a replacement. --You're right, I can get a complete 1400c panel including bezel (my current one is pretty scratched up) for $30 from powerbook guy. Nice.

The cs screen is alright, not brilliant, but alright. I wouldn't want to watch movies on it much, but it gets the job done
